Nbsp; Ang panunungkulan ni Pangulong Cory ay nagsimula noong Pebrero 25, 1986 ito ang huling araw ng EDSA People Power Revolution. Ang kanyang naging bise presidente ay si Salvador Laurel. Ang pag upo sa pwesto ni Pangulong Cory ay tanda ng umpisa ng ika-5 Republika ng Pilipinas.
Itinatag ni Cory ang isang rebolusyonaryong pamahalaan, winalang-bisa ang batasang pambansa, at winalang saysay ang Saligang Batas ng 1973 noong unang bahagi ng kanyang pag-upo bilang presidente. Ginawa niya ito para paghandaan ang bagong saligang batas.
Inanunsyo ni Cory ang probisyunal na saligang batas noong Marso 25, 1986 ito ang Freedom Constitution. Nakasulat dito ang tungkol sa pagbibigay ng kapangyarihang tagapagpaganap at tagapagbatas sa pangulo ng bansa hanggang sa maitatag ang isang sangay tagapagbatas sa bisa ng isang bagong saligang batas. Pati na rin ang pagbuo ng pangulo ng isang komisyong babalangkas ng bagong saligang batas.
