Paano naitatag ang Katipunan?

Noong ika-7 ng Hunyo 1892, sina Andres Bonifacio, Teodoro Plata, Deodato Arellano, Ladislao Diwa, Valentin Diaz, at iba pa ay nagtipon sa 72 Kalye Azcarraga na kasalukuyang Claro M. Recto Avenue sa Tondo, Manila. Dito nila itinatag ang Kataastaasang Kagalanggalangan na Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan o Katipunan na naglalayong makamit ang kalayaan ng Pilipinas sa mga Espanyol.
Tatlong layunin sa pagtatag ng Katipunan:
1. Politika
2. Sibiko
3. Moral
Ang layunin ng tatlong ito ay:
1. Ang tuluyang pagtiwalang ng Pilipinas mula sa Spain
2. Pagtuturo ng mabuting asal sa mga Plipino gaya ng kabutihang loob, kalinisan ng katawan, at kung paano mmababantayan ang sarili mula sa panatisismo, kahinaan ng pagkatao at kabuktutan ng relihiyon
3. Maghikayat ng mga Filipino na magtulungan at ipagtanggol ang mga naaapi.
Ang “Kartilya ng Katipunan” ni Emilio Jacinto at “Dekalogo” o “Katungkulang Gagawin ng mga Anak ng Bayan” ni Andres Bonifacio ang dalawang kodigo ng kautusan ang sinunod ng mga kasapi ng Katipunan.
