Question: In 2011, I applied through an employment agency to work in Hong Kong. They asked me for 90 thousand pesos as placement fee, and they told us that we could borrow/loan the money from lending company. After a few months working in Hong Kong, I was laid off from work / fired / dismissed from job, so I could not pay for the loan. They sued me/ filed lawsuit against me. If I go back home to the Philippines, and I want to work abroad and leave the Philippines, would there be any problems? Would I be able to leave the Philippines and work abroad again?

In my humble opinion, hindi makaapekto ang pagpunta mo sa ibang bansa dahil lamang sa isang civil collection case. Nakapaloob sa ating Bill of Rights that the right to travel shall not be impaired except upon lawful order of the court and by reason of public safety, security, security and health. Ibig sabihin nito, mas mananaig ang karapatan mong magtravel kaysa sa isang simpleng kasong pangsibil. Ang exception dito, of course, is if by order of the court and for reason of public policy which I doubt would apply in your case. Kalimitan dito sa exceptions ay criminal cases involving heinous crimes, where the court can order a hold departure order.
