Prolonged menstrual bleeding is medically called menorrhagia. A prompt visit to your gynecologist is imperative to stop the bleeds, determine the underlying cause of the bleeding, and prevent any further complications.

The causes of such prolonged menstrual bleeding include hormonal imbalance, diseases of the ovary, cancers of the uterus or ovary, growths in the uterus such as fibroids and polyps, thyroid issues, reverse menstruation called endometriosis, unresolved genital infections,and genetic bleeding disorder.
