Translation: I am 22 years old. I am bothered with my menstruation. My last menstrual period was in November 2014. I practically did not have menstruation the whole year 2015.

If I did, it was just a bit of spotting. I am also overweight. I don't know what to do. I'm afraid to consult an OB Gyne. What could my problem be?

There are many causes of amenorrhoea (not getting your period).
These include stress, hormone imbalance especially hypothyroidism, weight issues, structural problem with gynae organs and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Don't be scared to go to your doctor. They are there to help you. Most likely it will just be a scan and some blood test for the initial consultation. So There is nothing to be afraid of.

Dear Emmalou,

As Dr Denise explained there are a number of possible causes for your amenorrhea. Without repeating what Dr Denise has already said. The take home message you need to focus on is not to worry. You have been worried for over a year now. The stress alone could be a contributing factor. Seeing an Ob/Gyne doctor is your first port of call. They deal with cases like yours all the time. Trust them and leave the worrying to them. Even though as doctors we rarely worry because we know how to fix all kinds of common symptoms such as yours.
Secondly you are concerned about your weight. A dietician will fix that very easily. You are what you eat. Heard that before? They specialise in treating countless patients with the same concern.
So See a doctor to work you up for your menstrual problem and a dietician for your weight. If you have any further concerns please don't hesitate to ask.
We live and breathe to help people and alleviate their concerns and solve their problems.

Evening Ed,

First thing I shall say is that's great news that you had your menstrual period! It stopped after 3 days? The average period lasts between 3-5 days. However it can be shorter or longer ranging from 1-7 days, which is 'normal'.
Second thing you are worried about having lower abdominal pain with your period right? Let me reassure you that as close to 90% of women get this pain at some point in their lives. It's called 'Dysmennorhoea' which is normal. A couple of Panadols will clear that right up.
Lastly you say you are afraid. It's ok, it's normal to be fearful as your mind runs away with you and what could be causing this pain. Nobody enjoys pain and we all are afraid when we don't know what's causing it. I can reassure you but I'm still a saf doctor. I was hoping you paid a visit to a gynaecologist that I promise you will put all your fears to rest.
Nobody likes feeling that they are not in control. I'm giving you the key to the door that gives you control. Take it and use it. I hope that the next time I hear from you will be after you see a gynaecologist and all your worries are put to the ground. Be hapy! Life is too short to spend it in fear. You have control.

Keep me posted on your progress please

Kindest regards,

Dr Osman

Hi! good pm Dr. Osman, I already have an update with the problem you read long time ago. I already consulted an obgyne earlier and Dr. Reyes claim that I am having ENDOMETRIAL HYPERPLASIA which she based on the result of my transviginal ultrasound. My obgyne did not mention that there were a classification of ENDOMETRIAL HYPERPLASIA. I am confused now which classification I belong. Please help me. thanks.
