Thank you for your questions.

It is not normal for a woman to have vulvar eczema, however, it is very common among women and can be caused by emotional stress and physical agents such as excessive vaginal discharge, female deodorants, toilet paper, sanitary pads, and certain strong soaps.

There are a lot of tips to help prevent vulvar eczema and they include the following:

1. Avoid cleaning the vulvar area with fragrant or irritating soaps, use mild soaps instead.

2. Do not use feminine sprays or deodorants on the vulvar area.

3. Use your hands, rather than sponges to clean the vulva.

4. Avoid washing your clothes or underwears with strong detergents.

5. Wear cotton underwear.

6. Use a new razor anytime you want to shave the vulvar area.

7. Avoid wearing tight underwears as they may cause excessive heat and sweating which in turn may irritate the genital region.

Treatment of vulvar eczema is with steroid creams or ointments which may include dermovate or hydrocortisone.

As a steroid, dermovate is far stronger and more effective than hydrocortisone, however, it is this strength that makes it prone to causing more serious side effects. Hence, a milder steroid cream ( hydrocortisone) is preferred first. Dermovate is used if hydrocortisone fails or if the symptoms are very severe.

I hope I have answered your questions, please do not hesitate to ask for further clarifications.

Best wishes.

Translation: Thank you for your reply. Vulval Eczema isn't serious, is it? And it can be easily treated, correct? What home remedies are there that I could use?

Thank you for your response and questions.

Vulvar eczema is not serious and is very treatable. The home remedies, however, include the following:

1. Use of mild steroid such as hydrocortisone cream,

2. keeping the vulvar area dry,

3. Applying a barrier cream such as petroleum jelly on the vulvar area to prevent irritation by moisture.

4. Use of an over-the-counter antihistamine drug such as benadryl for the itch.

5. Avoid scratching when it itches.

6. Wash the area with a very mild soap.

7. Practice the preventive strategies I posted initially.

I hope I have answered your question and I want to reiterate that vulvar eczema is not a serious condition and is very treatable.

Best wishes.
