Last week palagi po akong nadudumi, parang LBM (Loose Bowel Movement). Araw araw po yun kahit wala pa kong kinakain at minsan po wala akong panlasa. Kaya nababawasan ang pagkain ko at sumasakit po ung tiyan ko. Possible po ba na my amoebasis ako? Salamat po

Translation: I have been having LBM everyday for the past week. This happens even if I dont eat. I also can't taste food anymore (foods taste bland or no flavor). That is why I lose appetite and I have stomach pain. Is it possible that I have amoebiasis?

Dear anonymous,

To answer your question I would need more details to diagnose correctly. However using the information you gave I can reassure you in the following ways.
1. 'Could I have Amoebiasis?'
Although this infection caused by a parasite that is endemic in many third world countries including the Philippines. Your complaints of losing taste of food and having excessive diarrhoea are not common with this parasitic infection especially in a sudden onset of your symptoms. Did you notice any blood in your bowel movements?
2. Abdominal pain coinciding with diarrhoea along with loss of appetite are however very commonly associated with bacterial or viral infection of the gut. This is known as gastroenteritis.

In either case this will require a visit to a doctor to evaluate and treat accordingly. Hygiene is a vital and crucial protective measure for both yourself and loved ones around you. I will write an article describing ways to protect yourself in due course. In the meantime hydrate hydrate hydrate!
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions and wish you a speedy recovery.

Kindest regards,

Dr Osman
