TONSILLECTOMY FOR MY 9 YEAR OLD SON, IS IT REALLY NECESSARY?

Hi, I would like to seek medical advice for my 9 year old son. he's having sleep apnea. The ENT Doctor said he has large tonsils and the remedy is to remove the large tonsils via surgery. I have researched the web about tonsillectomy,there are positive feedbacks and also negative ones.Like a 5 year old boy in California who underwent tonsillectomy but died afterwards. and also a 15 year old girl forgot her place, she was brain dead and in coma after the tonsillectomy. My querry is this.. IF I WONT LET MY SON UNDERGO TONSILLECTOMY TO REMOVE THE SO CALLED LARGE TONSILS, WILL IT BE UNHEALTHY FOR HIM? WILL THERE BE COMPLICATIONS OR SOMETHING? PLEASE HELP, I NEED SOME HELPFUL ADVICE,,, THANKS

Enlarged tonsils are common in children. They get normalized when a child grows up and becomes an adult.In my opinion, I would not recommend any surgery at this point unless there is any serious problem. So just wait and watch.
But if you feel he has a permanent problem of sleep apnea, you can consider the surgical intervention.Because sleep apnea interfere with oxygen consumption and hence affect growth of the child. The two cases of tonsillectomy you mentioned are very very rare and a result of untrained surgeon.
