May tatlong grupo ng insulin – human, analogue at animal. Sa loob ng mga grupong ito ay may ibat’t ibang klase, na ngtratrabaho sa iba’t ibang bilis at haba ng panahon sa iyong katawan.

Explanation

Ang human insulin ay synthetic (artificial) na version ng insulin na natural nalilikha sa katawan. Ang analogue insulin ay synthetic variation naman ng human insulin. Dinisenyo ang lahat ng synthetic insulin para magtrabaho tulad ng natural insulin. Karamihan sa mga tao ay gumagamit ng human o analogue insulin, pero ang iba ay gumagamit pa rin ng animal insulin dahil mabisa ito sa kanila.

May anim na main types ng insulin:

· Short-acting insulins. Ito’y kailangang i-inject 15-30 minuto bago ang kumain at nagtatagal hanggang 8 oras.

· Intermediate- and long-acting insulins. Ito’y ini-inject isa o dalawang beses sa isang araw. Sila’y mas aktibo apat hanggang 12 oras at pwedeng magtagal ng 30 oras.

· Rapid-acting analogues. Ito’y ini-inject bago, kasama, o pagkatapos kumain. Sila’y kadalasang nagtratrabaho agad at tumatagal hanggang anim na oras.

· Long-acting analogues. Ito’y kailangang i-inject isang beses sa isang araw at tumatagal hanggang 24 oras.

· Mixed insulin. Ito’y hinalong intermediate and short-acting insulin.

· Mixed analogue. Ito’y hinalong intermediate-acting insulin at rapid-acting analogue.
